Currently we are looking for a Senior Sustainability Risk Specialist to join our Sustainability Risk team. Someone who gets inspired and energized by playing a pivotal role in shaping our sustainability risk strategy and ensuring that we manage and mitigate potential risks effectively. Our commitments under the UN Guiding Priciples on Business and Human Rights, Dutch Climate Accord and the Paris Agreement are key in our Daily work.
Working environment
Banking is the business of taking risks. However, which risks are acceptable and which are not? The Sustainability Risk team identifies risks, assesses the risks and addresses them with concrete measures. Moreover, the team is heavily involved in the implementation of sustainable finance regulations.
The Sustainability Risk team is a diverse team and currently consists of eight professionals with a mix of experience in the field of Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) and risk management. The team works in close cooperation with colleagues from across ABN AMRO, including the Client Units, Group Strategy, Sustainability Centre of Excellence, Finance and Risk Management. We are always available to help each other.
The Sustainability Risk team is part of the Central Risk Management (CRM) department, that is besides sustainability risk, responsible for topics like, risk appetite, stress testing, provisioning, capital allocation and enterprise risk management. This offers you the opportunity to share your knowledge with and contribute to the deliverables of CRM in a broader context and offers you the opportunity to learn more about the wider set-up of risk management. Furthermore, we make time for non-work related activities. We enjoy spontaneous “borrels” (drinks), attending content relevant events and departmental outings, like cleaning the Amsterdam channels. We also work on our vitality together.
Your job
As a Senior Sustainability Risk Specialist your focus area will cover environmental, social risk and governance related risks. Your job includes activities like:
- Conduct in-depth assessments on topics like climate change, biodiversity loss and human rights;
- Collaborate with various departments to develop the sustainability risk policies;
- Provide guidance and expertise to senior management on sustainability risk management;
- Stay up-to-date with sustainability regulations, sectors trends and best practices;
- Define and monitor the sustainability risk appetite;
You work together in a team of sustainability experts and work closely with cross-functional teams across ABN AMRO.
Your profile
You are a team player who is eager to learn and strives for quality. You have strong knowledge of sustainability principles and sector developments. You have effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities. The Sustainability Risk Specialist is a professional who is resourceful and possesses a creative and entrepreneurial spirit. You are a self-starter and you like to get things done.

- Knowledge of sustainability related issues and impact on clients and ABN AMRO
